FAQs
Here are the most commonly asked questions we have been asked over the last four years. If yours isn’t amongst them please contact us and we will do our best to answer it.
Q Can we use your sound system for
speeches and to play background music before the band is contracted to
play?
A If the band representative can set the system up in time and run it,
then this is possible. Sometimes, in the busy summer months, musicians
are going from one engagement to another and there is not enough time.
Ask at the point of booking.
Q Is there a charge for this service?
A There is a supplementary fee of £50.00 for this. Do compare this
with the cost a hotel would charge for the same service. We find it is
nearly always considerably more expensive.
Q Can the band play our favourite song?
A Every effort will be made to comply with the client’s wishes.
Last year out of thirty five requests for this we were able to comply
on thirty one occasions. Do let us know the song in plenty of time.
Q Do you make a charge for travel?
A In the general M25 area no. Beyond that the travel costs are in the
agreed fee depending on distance travelled and size of band etc.
Q We have a friend who we would like
to sing/play a tune with the band. Is this possible?
A Usually we are able to agree to this. It works better at the beginning
of the evening. When the band is in full flow later in the evening it
can break up the natural rhythm of the dancing.
Q Can we ask the band to play an extra set on the night if the party
is able to carry on?
A Yes, this is quite common especially when the event is taking place
in some ones private gardens or residence. Negotiate with the bandleader
on the night a time scale and suitable fee. To protect the musicians we
ask for the extra fee to be paid on the night along with the agreed full
fee.
Q Should we feed and water the band?
A If it is possible. The musicians are always extremely grateful for refreshments,
especially as they will be on site for a considerable number of hours.
However, it is not expected and so if it is not possible then do inform
us at the point of booking and we can make our own arrangements.
Q We are having the wedding breakfast and speeches in the same room as
the dancing. Can you come earlier in the day and set up so as not to disrupt
the meal?
A Most of the time this is possible. However, very rarely, if we have
two
bookings and are coming from another engagement to yours, we will need
to set the equipment in a convenient spot away from the speeches and then
bring the equipment into the room after the speeches. This is done quickly
and efficiently.
Q How long do you need to set up?
A Usually one hour from arriving to being ready to play.
Q Do you carry lights?
A Yes we do when suitable. A very simple system. JazznotJazz bands are
all live bands. There are no added supplementary taped backings, light
shows, dry ice or booming bass sounds. We supply a top band, simple lighting
and sound system.
Q If we think you are too loud can we ask you turn down?
A Of course, although this happens very rarely. We don’t equate
loudness with having a good time. We think playing the right tunes well
is the way to create the right atmosphere. We always try and keep a sympathetic
balance in the room so that people that want to talk can.
Q How far do you travel?
A We will play anywhere at any time. Musicians have traditionally been
wandering souls for hundreds of years. If you ask any JazznotJazz musician
how many places he or she has visited in any given year for work, they
will bore you for hours with the answer! Seriously, we can arrange cost
effective transport and accommodation anywhere.
